Tips on Keeping Your Teeth White after a Whitening Treatment

If you’re afraid that those pearly whites of yours might lose their shine soon after a teeth whitening service, you are not alone. At Advanced Dental Center, we receive our share of clients who worry that their daily habits might harm the whiteness of their teeth.

Although teeth do not lose its whiteness so quickly after a service, there are still some things that could cause harm, staining your choppers.

So here, we give you some tips on how you can maintain the whiteness of your teeth after a service for a long time.

Avoid Certain Drinks

Just imagine dropping a few drops of the drink on your white shirt and then having trouble washing it out. This is what happens when you drink certain unhealthy drinks such as coffee, tea, fizzy drinks and certain wines can leave stains on your teeth. However, if you cannot function without consuming these drinks then use a straw so the caffeine in those drinks can bypass your teeth.

Avoid Certain Food items

Berries, jams, tomato sauce, soy sauce and any other dark condiments might be staples for your diet; but they can be very harmful against the whitening results of your teeth. Same as with a drink staining your white shirt, if the food you eat stains, then stay away from it.

Regular Brushing

Make it a habit to brush twice during the day, once in the morning and after dinner. Not cleaning your teeth after a meal allows the acids and chemicals to start developing. This can lead to cavities and weak teeth, neither of which is something that a whitening service can protect your teeth from.

Use Whitening Products

Ask your dentist if they can recommend any teeth whitening products such as special toothpastes or mouthwashes to help you maintain the whiteness of your teeth.

Quit Smoking

Although this is easier said than done, quitting smoking can actually have a lot of benefits for your overall health. Smoking is one of the major causes of discoloration, so continuing your smoking habit will quickly stain your whitened teeth.

Dental Visits

Depending on your teeth whitening method, it is recommended that you go for a touch-up every six months or so. This is especially important if you have any improper drinking or eating habits. Here at our Rockville dental center, we receive many clients who just want to have a deep cleaning so that they can maintain the overall health of their teeth and gums.
